16 Months Old!

Rhea is 16 months old today, so I will leave the medical update until the end, instead of starting off yet another post that way.

It's appropriate that her 16 month picture was taken in the car, since she is on-the-go all the time and this was the only time I could get her to sit still long enough to take a picture. She is all bundled up and yes, she is in pajamas because today was pajama day at school, so all of the kids and teachers wore the pjs today. So fun!

At 16 months old, Rhea can now communicate with us completely. While some of the communication is still through action - pointing or fussing - more and more of it is becoming verbal. Here are the words we hear most often these days:

--No (she loves this word and says it a lot. Sometimes she gets confused and says no when she means yes. Wait, she's a girl...she'll be doing that for the rest of her life!)
--Uh-oh (any time she drops anything on the floor, it is followed by uh-oh)

--Yum (her mmmm sound has evolved to yum)

--Na (bananas)

--Cracker (the other day, she grabbed the Ritz box off the shelf and walked across the room to where I was saying cracker, cracker, cracker. I got the point - she wanted a cracker!)

--Yeah (I'm thinking we say yeah and not yes in this house because when Rhea wants something, she goes for the slang yeah and not the formal yes)

--Thay yoo (thank you - she is starting to say this after you give her something and we try to say thank you to her every time she gives us something...you can't start learning manners too early, right?)

--Jooosss (juice)

--Bow (bowl - when she eats Puffs, she wants them in one of her little bowls, which she then carries into the living room and puts on the coffee table. Sometimes she tries to carry her sippy cup at the same time, which she isn't quite coordinated enough to do...yet)

--More

--Ah da (all done)

--Hat (as soon as we put her coat on, she looks at me and says hat. She knows they go together at this point)

It's truly amazing to watch her grow each day and each month.

As for the mandatory sickness update...things seem better. She had a good night last night and a good day today at school. One of her teachers suggested that we cut out milk for a couple of days to give her stomach a break, which I thought was a great idea. We replaced the milk with water and/or juice and figured that would help as well and so far, so good. We'll see how tonight goes.
