Rhea has had a little rash on her chin for the past week or so and up until the other day, it didn't seem too bad. There was just a little bit of color under her mouth. So, we tried to keep the area clean and dry, which is a real challenge with a 7 month old who likes to put everything she sees in her mouth. Well, unfortnuately, the rash seems to be getting worst. It is now red and looks a little raw, so on Tuesday night after putting Rhea to bed, I ran out and got the prescription her doctor gave us for an antifungal, antibacterial cream filled. When I got home, we decided to try and put some on her that night so it could start working right away, especially during the only 11 hours of the day she isn't try to eat everything she sees! Since she was already in bed, we tried to sneak in and put the cream on her. Somehow, even though we were really quiet, we woke her up and she looked right at us with the strangest look on her face...almost like, "what are you two doing in here? I'm trying to sleep." We quickly put the cream on and then ran out of the room, holding out breath and waiting for her to cry, but...she didn't. She moved around for a couple of minutes (probably touching her chin!) and then fell right back to sleep. Phew!
The past couple of mornings when she woke up, her chin looked much better. But, by the evening after a full day of drool, it looks red and irritated again. So, we put the cream on 3 times yesterday and have learned that if we put it on and then walk around with Rhea immediately after, we can keep her distracted just long enough to let it dry. We have also been trying to keep her chin as dry as possible and to limit her pacifier use. Hopefully all of this will start making a difference soon. Poor baby :(
