On Friday when I dropped Rhea off, the daycare director grabbed me and said that she and Rhea's teachers felt that Rhea was ready to move up - upstairs, up to preschool, up where the big kids are! My initial reaction was no way - she's only 2 years, 5 months, she's still a toddler, she doesn't belong with the big kids yet. At which point I was given a big reality check - Rhea is in fact one of those big kids now.
Rhea is at a center that offers infant daycare all the way through pre-k. They have the classrooms set up as mixed age classrooms, which means they move the kids up based on abilities and not age. So, if Rhea went to a preschool only, she would have to be 2 years, 9 months, but since she is here, she can go when she's ready. And I have to admit, she's ready. She amazes me everyday with how smart she is - how well she can communicate, how much she understands, how quickly she learns something new.
So, on Friday she spent a few hours in her new classroom and she did really well, so her cubby with her extra clothes and sleeping bag is now officially in preschool and so is Rhea.
She's so excited too. She told me all weekend that she is in preschool now. She also told me that she has to use potty all the time in preschool, so hopefully this well help put the finishing touches on potty training since she's so close.
The best part about all of this is that Rhea's friend Lydia moved up with her. So the two girls who have to sit next to each other for every snack and every meal, who have to sleep next to each other during naptime and use potty together, are taking this next step together as well. I know it helps Rhea and it makes me feel less worried too - Rhea already has a buddy in her new classroom - the big girl classroom.
